Point of Smoking (8/16/1998)
Whenever I see someone smoking I can't help but think, "Why?" If I see somebody doing drugs or drinking, at least I can understand what their point is-- they want the effect. Druggies want to get high and the drinkers want to relax and get drunk. Simple enough.
Smokers, on the other hand, just start smoking because they are weak-willed and their friends are smokers. People claim that smoking calms you down and lowers your stress, but that's pretty much only if you're already a smoker. If you never start smoking to begin with, you won't need cigarettes to calm you down.
Ahhh! I dunno. Smokers just piss me off. They smell, they look retarded, their teeth are all yellow at the roots, and worst of all, they think they're smoking for some good reason. I think the price of cigarettes should rise at a constant $2 or $3/year to help deter people from this nasty habit. Or better, the minimum smoking age should rise 1 year every year. That would let those that already smoke continue and make it easier for 7-11 clerks to tell the new smokers apart from the rest. After 85 years or so, nobody would be able to smoke. ::shrug:: Who knows.
However, as a non-smoker, I really don't know what I'm talking about. There may be some wonderful pleasure attained through those horrible paper rolls o' death, but I'm not aware of it, nor will I ever want to be.
